healthy recipes are easy. I was shocked when an old man was shown on TV as so poor that he lived on tins of dog-food - not because he was poor (there are plenty of poor people) but because he was wasting his money on unhealthy food. All he needed was some cheap health food and some healthy cooking.

Most tinned dog-food contains addictive drugs to prevent the dog changing to another brand. They are definitely not cheap.

Preparing Healthy Food Is Easy

Our society is conditioned to think that because it take years of apprenticeship to become a chef, cooking must be difficult. This couldn’t be further from the truth. A century ago housewives were expected to produce healthy tasty meals for the kids as a result of watching other people cook.

I’ll tell you a secret that the chefs don’t want you to know - they make up their recipes as they go along! If you start off with tasty food it is very difficult to ruin it. If your recipe calls for half an egg, and you live on a poultry farm throwing out a dozen cracked eggs per day, so you use 3 eggs, you won’t ruin the food. The worst that can happen is that you have to change the name of the recipe.

Of course, you have to be a little more careful with very tasty ingredients such as garlic and chilli peppers and curry powder, because if you double the quantity some people might not enjoy the results.

One chef on TV used to call at the home of the first householder that would accept his offer, and create a meal from whatever was in the fridge. He was making up his menu and recipes as he went along, as all good chefs can do. I’m not a chef, but I used to walk round my organic garden and pick natural vegetables such as tomatoes, sweet potato, New Zealand spinach, Bok Choy, and weeds such as purslane and sow thistle. I’d pick whatever fruit was ready to harvest such as fruit-salad fruit (Monstera deliciosa), jube-jubes, prickly pear, figs, fejoa, tamarillo, loquat, persimmon, lemon, mulberry, acerola cherry, paw-paw.

Then I’d take my collection in to the kitchen and design my menu, making up my recipes as I went, with herbs from my garden for extra flavor.

Why Is Food You Prepare Better?

You must have heard of the Attention Deficit Syndrome children. In Australia some schools have tried cutting out all processed food from their canteen, and persuading parents to stop using processed foods. ADHD symptoms disappeared as hoped, but the headmasters commented that they were surprised to see better behaviour, better concentration, and apparent increase in IQ in all the children, not just the ADHD patients.

You can read down the additives list and cut out foods with certain additives, but governments are allowing food product labels to disguise the names of toxic additives and even to miss them out in some cases. Why ruin health food with toxic additives?
